A BEDMINSTER woman says she has been left anxious and in pain after she was told her breast implants have ruptured.

Emma Newman said her breasts have felt hard and as if they were "on fire" for almost 18 months.

At an appointment after she heard about issues with PIP implants the 36-year-old said she was told that she has three ruptures in her left breast and one in her right.

But despite Linia Cosmetic Surgery telling to Mrs Newman that she has ruptured PIP implants, she has not yet been given a date for them to be removed.

"My breasts feel like they are on fire all the time. They are rock hard and I have been ill for about three months. I don't know if that is anything to do with the implants or not.

"I have been seen by my GP as well and their advice was to see the surgeons. But they have said that if they help me they will charge me."

Mrs Newman, who has two children, had the £2,500 implants at a Linia clinic in London in February 2008 to increase her 29AA bust to 30D.

With serious concerns about her implants, she went to the Linia clinic in Clifton on January 20.

"When I went to the clinic it was the first time I knew that I had PIPs," she said. "When I was examined the guy said 'I am sorry you have a rupture in one and three in the other'.

"I was shocked and devastated to be one of the people going through it.

"They told me I would be a high priority because of the situation."

Mrs Newman claims she was told that she would have to pay a fee in the lowest price bracket for the replacement surgery.

She said: "My breasts are getting more and more painful and I don't know how to lay at night because it is like having bricks on me."

PIP implants have been at the centre of a scandal after it emerged that industrial-grade silicone had been used to manufacture them – rather than medical grade – and may be more prone to rupturing or leaking.

It is thought that about 40,000 women in the UK have the implants.

Linia has provided advice to women about their PIP implants on its website and said it has been seeing patients since the start of January, and where appropriate they would be removed and replaced with no fee, but that the cost price may apply.

When contacted by the Evening Post they refused to comment further on the matter.

"Two main points as getting fed up of reading so many of these stories. Like a lot of these women she claims she has been having problems for 18 months so why wait until now to bring them up, now the PIP story hits."

Because she now realises that it's not just her, and there's a real problem? Sheesh!

I don't think there will be much of an interest in the "3 for the price of 2" offered by some French clinics.

Like a lot of these women she claims she has been having problems for 18 months so why wait until now to bring them up, now the PIP story hits. I do think that the person who fitted them should pay as they would have insurance surely against the products they used.
My other point is that women and even men need to remember that implants do not last forever and likely she would have had to get them done a few times in her life as it is an unatural item in your body and they do decay, at what rate depends on the person.
These women who got PIP only got them because they were cheaper than what they use in this country and are now paying for getting the job done on teh cheap. Hopefully this will cut the number of people who are getting in to debt buying surgery that they didn't need and only want it.

@Spineyhedgehog...."Apparantly in the US, men are getting false 'pecs' inserted, and if it happens there..."

This is nothing new, I'm afraid. Pumped up pecs, buttocks, calves....botox, cheek implants, lip fillers. Then you've got the other end of the spectrum where people are having the excess 'vacuumed' out. Makes my eyes water!

not sure I understand why she has to pay? if the clinic fitted her with faulty breasts , then surely they should fit her with a new set without charge?
