A local charity is urging Bristolians to get fit for the New Year while taking part in a new fundraising challenge.
Lenny in training
The Stadium Dash Challenge, set by St Peter's Hospice, is due to take place on Sunday 3 February and challenges people to race up and down the 415 steps at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol to raise much needed funds.
Fundraiser Louisa James says training for the event could provide the perfect motivation for those who want to lose a few festive pounds this January.
She said: "Everybody starts a new health kick in January so now is a great time to sign up for a charity challenge to give yourself an added incentive!
"The lovely thing about the Stadium Dash Challenge is that anybody can take part; you don't need any specialist skills just lots of enthusiasm!
"Our friends at Bristol Rovers Football Club have set a best time of 3 minutes 15 seconds so those feeling competitive can try to beat it or runners can take their time. People can enter individually or as a team so it could be a fun day out for the whole family."
The Stadium Dash Challenge is a brand new event for the city and organisers are hoping it turns into a popular addition and raises vital money for Bristol's only adult hospice.
St Peter's Hospice cares for more than 2,670 patients each year with life limiting illnesses and provides emotional and practical support for their families. Each year it costs £6.8 million to run the hospice with 77% of that coming from public support.
The challenge costs £10 per person to enter and participants are asked to raise as much in sponsorship as possible.
Louisa continued: "Perhaps it is your New Year's Resolution to get fit or maybe you just want to join in with a fun event – whatever the reason we need as many people as possible to sign up.
"Our hospice mascot Lenny the bear has been in training all over Bristol running up Cabot Tower, Christmas Steps and up and down the Cabot Circus car park. It's so easy for you to train too; everywhere you go there are steps for you to practise on!"
The Stadium Dash is taking place from 10am on Sunday 3 February. First, second and third prizes will be given to the fastest individuals or teams.
