Kings Road, Clifton, Bristol numbers confusion

I was a bit excited about the opening of Lahloo Pantry on Kings Road having read this story yesterday on Clifton People.

So I went on a bif of an explore to find number 12, Kings Road where the new "tea concept store will be".

Then I got a bit confused. I have never noticed before, but this road has a bizarre sequence of numbers.

Working left to right, there is the Hophouse, number 16. Then, next to that there is number 8, Arcade Chambers before Amoeba (10), Hambledons (11) and the future Lahloo Pantry at number 12.

Is anybody else confused by this? Why is Hophouse number 16 and next door number 8? And where is number 9?
