Plan a Party for Pete and help raise funds for the hospice

Parties will be taking place all over the city this September as Bristol charity St Peter's Hospice begins to sign people up to the 'Party for Pete' campaign.

 

Fundraising managers at Bristol's only adult hospice have reported an influx of registrations as fundraisers put on their party hats to raise money for the cause.

 

Fundraising manager Jo Gibbons said: "We have been astonished by the reaction we've had to Party for Pete; people in the city seem to really be getting behind it and we can feel the excitement building already.

 

"The great thing about this campaign is that everybody can take part. From small garden parties which raise £30 to large village hall celebrations which make £300, we just want to get as many people as possible involved and any donation is greatly received."

 

'Party for Pete' asks people to arrange any type of party they like and then donate the proceeds to the charity. Funds raised will go towards caring for local people with life-limiting illnesses.

 

Organisers have come up with some fun party ideas to inspire planners including a cocktail party, a tea party, a silent disco, a masquerade ball, a 'Come Dine with Me' evening, a sponsored sleepover and a 'P' party where everyone must dress as something beginning with P.

 

Jo continued: "The parties can be as imaginative or as simple as people wish. There are some great outdoor options if the weather is nice, such as picnics or tea parties or why not hire a boat on the docks and have a boat party!

 

"Quiz nights and games are another option and extra funds can be raised through auctions, raffles and competitions or through selling food and drinks.

 

"Businesses, schools, groups and clubs can also get involved by throwing parties in the office or the classroom so it really is an event for the whole community."

 

The charity is also urging those who already have events planned for September to make it a 'Party for Pete' by charging guests a small amount or asking for a donation.

 

Jo said: "We've had lots of registrations so far including some businesses, shops and individuals all ready to get into the party spirit. All party planners will receive a registration pack filled with tips and ideas. Once you've had your party, please send us all your pics as we'd love to see them!"

 

Services at St Peter's Hospice are provided free of charge but the NHS contribute just 23% of the £6.5 million needed to run the hospice yearly, meaning support from the public is essential.

 

Last year the hospice cared for 2,675 patients and supported over 6,000 family members including children.
