Clifton Bristol City Council local election results 2011

The Liberal Democrats retained both of their seats in Clifton at the local elections last night, but overall in Bristol, Clifton councillor Barabra Janke and leader of the city's Lib Dems group said that it had been a "disastrous" night for her party.

Mrs Janke won her Clifton seat with an increased majority. Her colleague Christian Martin won in Clifton East. The Conservative Party was pushed into second place in both Clifton wards.
Turnout in Clifton was comparatively high, with Clifton ward getting the second best turnout in the city (46.74%), second only to Ashley ward (49.64%) where the Green Party won a council seat from the Lib Dems, one of five Lib Dem seats to fall.
Speaking to the Evening Post, Mrs Janke said: "We're very disappointed but we will not walk away from our responsibility. We will meet with other parties to look at how best to work with them in what will be a challenging year ahead."
