My great, great, great Grandfather was William Bateman Reed. He was listed as a builder and hotel proprietor on his Oath of a Burgess and in the 1841 and 1861 census. He is listed as the builder of the Royal Promenade in Clifton. He also built, owned and operated the Queen's Hotel which was located on Queen's road and is now the Habitat store. He lived across the street in The Queen's Villa until his death in 1880. The Queen's Villa was demolished and is now the site of Barclay's bank. His parents were Thomas and Matilda Reed. William Bateman married Mary Dodgson and had 17 children!! Three died premature. The other's were mostly christened in St. James Church and, I believe a Michaels. The surviving children are: Clara Jane, died age 35, Thomas George, Frank Dodgson, died age 22, Blanche, Julia Rose, died age 18, Albert Bateman, Harry Park, died age 24, Sydney Scott, Kate Howard, Ralph Newbury (my great, great), Lionel Steel, and Ada Sullivan.
So if you know any Reeds still living in the Bristol area ........
