I'm not sure the words "cheap" and "Clifton" ever go together sadly. They did once upon a happy time! The Primrose Cafe during the day is good value, given how excellent the food is. In Alma Vale Road the Bristol Raj is a great Indian one. I haven't tried the Thali Cafe yet but hear good things. Pizza Provencal is also good value with generous portions. The demise of Splinters where egg, chips and peas, apple pie and custard and a mug of coffee could be had for under a fiver (almost!) was a sad moment! Let's campaign for a decent "caff" and get the heart back into this community. I lived in London in the days of the "Bistro Vino" chain (anyone else old enough for that to ring a bell..?) - we could do with something like that - red and white check cloths, a candle in a bottle, affordable drinks, filling food and change from a tenner, and queues around the block!

No.4 restaurant in Clifton has recently been taken over by new management. Its a small but very elegant restaurant. The chef is superb, cooking true delights with fresh local produce and the prices are REALLY good! The dessert menu is pretty delicious too! You should definately try it out. The staff are lovely and relaxed!

Bauhinia, opposite the Arch House deli, Boyves avenue. Brilliant, funky pan asian restaurant with excellent food and good price. They also have an early eating set menu, only £7.50 for 2 courses with lots of good options. (AND the review framed in the loos is by me! '2 spoons')
Clifton sausage on a Sunday (BOOK!) £14.50 for 2 courses or £16.50 for 3, best sticky toffee pudd in the world. Noa has recently opened, ex Nobu chef, v good japanese and they have early evening set menu, £7.50 for a main- though you will be tempted to go 'off piste' and order a banquet. Btw: Dont try Pizza Provencale, unless you fancy a 'curry pizza'. I chose a normal option and it was the worst I have ever tasted.
