Featuring watercolours mostly painted on location, Jeremy Bowden brings attention to how status can affect the existence of a landscape. The first half of the exhibition features protected coastline, National Parks, local conservation areas and listed buildings.
In contrast, the second half features local threatened green spaces, and specifically around Brislington, where the artist is based. These paintings draw attention to the council's proposed areas for future development known as "Site Allocations". They are also a record of views which may quite soon be no more.
Painting only in the medium of pure watercolour, Jeremy developed a strange loyalty to this misleadingly simple medium in childhood. The challenge it presents became a vocation, greatly rewarding on the rare occasions that the artist and medium harmonise for the subject. He hopes that these occasions are more than coincidence, claiming that "walking alone in the wildernesses of our landscape" is his greatest pleasure.
