Virgin Media Simply the Vest with Richard Whitehead
• Design a running vest for Paralympic Champion to wear as he runs through your city!
• Win a chance to meet Richard Whitehead MBE
British double leg amputee and Paralympic Gold medallist, Richard Whitehead MBE, is running a marathon a day from John O'Groats to Land's End, supported by Virgin Media, to raise money for Sarcoma UK and Scope.
Richard is calling out to young people along his route to be part of the challenge by designing his vest as he strides through the South West on 12th to the 15th September 2013.
Virgin Media's 'Simply the Vest' competition is open to young people who live in the South West aged between four and 16 years old and the winner will present their design to Richard as he begins his 32nd of 40 marathons.
The theme for the design is 'living a life without limits' with Richard and headline sponsors Virgin Media selecting the 'Vest in Class' winning designs to feature on his running vest.
Richard said, "I'm going to be looking out for designs that make me smile and can help inspire more people try and live their lives without limits. Part of the challenge for me will be the repetition of running day-on-day, so having different kit to wear connected to the different areas I will pass through will help bring variety to my run and encourage more people to donate to our fantastic causes."
Winners so far have included 9-year-old Iona Sneddon and her 4-year-old sister Rosie Sneddon who got to meet Richard and present him with their winning designs in Glasgow.
Ernestina Hall, Head of Brand for Good from Virgin Media, said: "Having the opportunity to work with Richard, a Paralympic gold medallist, is an inspiring experience for all of the team at Virgin Media. Richard is passionate that you need to 'believe to achieve', and he is proof of living a life without limits. At Virgin Media we feel strongly that everyone should get a chance to live an independent life, whereby helping connect people to the digital world enables them to discover and achieve their own goals."
Designs could include local landmarks or personalities; they could be a colourful drawing, a motif or even a self-portrait - the more imaginative the better.
