Bristol’s favourite icons have been honoured on the trail of 50 specially designed plaques, made from Bristol Blue Glass at Bristol Zoo Gardens.

The Walk of Fame at Bristol Zoo Gardens features famous Bristol characters.
On Friday Zoo staff laid the plaques around the 12 acre site, with each plaque bearing the name of a famous inductee.
The Bristol Walk of Fame, which has been sponsored by local organisation, Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-school, celebrates the city’s most renowned people, places and icons from across the historic, creative, sporting and wildlife spectrum.
The list of inductees features a host of famous names from Banksy, Massive Attack, Justin Lee Collins, to J.K Rowling, Tony Robinson, Bill Bailey, and the Wurzels.
It also includes local legends, Blackbeard the pirate and Alfred the gorilla, as well as well known local organisations such as Bristol Aeroplane Company, Rolls-Royce Filton and Bristol Old Vic.
Wendy Walton, Head of Commercial Operations at Bristol Zoo, said: “As a hotbed for music and the arts, Bristol has a well established reputation for producing talented and inspiring people, whether they were born, lived or studied their crafts here.
“The city certainly has plenty to boast about when it comes to famous people, places and stories. We’re thrilled to be able to celebrate the city’s favourite icons on the Bristol Walk of Fame here at the Zoo.”
The Walk of Fame forms part of celebrations to mark Bristol Zoo’s 175th birthday this year. From tomorrow (Saturday April 9), visitors can see the Walk of Fame and take part in a quiz which celebrates the city’s distinctive dialect.
Bristol Zoo’s “Where’s that to?” quiz trail takes youngsters on a trip around the Zoo, following clues written in Bristolian, in search of five icons on the Walk of Fame. The trail is free with zoo entry and children who complete the trail will win a tasty treat.
Next Thursday (April 14) the Zoo will host a westcountry-themed celebrity launch party for the inductees onto the Bristol Walk of Fame, featuring a performance by the Wurzels.
The Bristol Walk of Fame has been created in association with Walk of Fame Ltd trademark owners and operators of cultural attractions in the UK. It is sponsored by Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-school, a family-run business with branches across the region.

ReportI went to the launch party for the Bristol Walk of Fame last night. It was truly a surreal lineup of invited guests, including Bill Bailey, Nick Park, Johnny Ball and a man dressed as Blackbeard the pirate, with the Wurzels providing the entertainment.
It's now only 49 plaques though as for some reason Stephen Merchant never gave his approval.

ReportVery good, Jo! Personally I can't believe the overweight bearded one even gets a plaque. What's he done for Bristol?
