A young female entrepreneur is sure to set Bristol pulses racing this week with the opening of her new erotic boutique on Saturday October 16th.

The Pomegranate Boutique is the first shop of its kind in Park Street, and Clifton, and Amy Whitaker is planning to re-write the rule book between women and their sexuality. She says Pomegranate Boutique will bring sexual style and class with a naughty twist to the population of Bristol and will be stocking a range of adult toys, lingerie, books, games and bedroom accessories.
Amy, who Clifton People featured in our Clifton Business People feature, said: “Our aim is to help women reignite their sexuality and re-establish their confidence.
“My idea was to turn the whole concept of a seedy sex shop on its head and create a relaxed welcoming environment where customers can really take time to choose and look.”
The boudoir-style store is designed in a simple tasteful style with a range of toys unwrapped and on display. The lingerie is carefully chosen from UK brands that celebrate women being women and cater for all shapes and sizes. Both the toys and lingerie have been personally selected by Amy, who will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice on the items in the store.
As well as running the shop, Amy also manages www.pomegranateboutique.co.uk, the online trading store. Pomegranate Boutique has also hosted several Saucy Soirées at The Berkeley Hotel, which have proved extremely popular with Bristol women. The brand has also linked into burlesque nights, gay pride events and Amy spoke at the July Ignite Bristol event at The Tobacco Theatre.
As an entrepreneur with values, Amy has tried to instil as many of her ethical values into her brand as possible: “People may think that it’s strange that I am instilling my personal values into my brand, but for me it makes perfect sense,” she says.
“I’m trying to re-shape a sector that, for many, has an uncomfortable image. A big part of what I am trying to do is to change people’s perception of a sex shop”. Amy also campaigns on health issues surrounding sex toys and hopes to bring some of the issues surrounding these to the fore.
She has tried to reduce air miles on the items stocked, partner with local businesses and generally try to be as green-friendly as possible. Pomegranate also donates a percentage of profits to Age UK and to Refuge.
