People across the city are being asked to make sure Bristol's unsung heroes and heroines, young and old get their deserved moment in the spotlight by submitting a nomination for a prestigious Lord Mayor's medal before March 2013.

All those nominated must either live or work in the city - or serve the people of Bristol through their voluntary and community work or charitable acts.

And for the first time ever, 2013 will see two Lord Mayor's medals specifically awarded to young people aged 18 and under.

The 2013 Lord Mayor's medals will be awarded in April next year at a special ceremony at the Mansion House.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Peter Main will present the medals to those people selected for the award.

"I am really looking forward to honouring those men and women – and young people - who give so much to our city and local communities," says Bristol's Lord Mayor, Cllr Peter Main. "The Lord Mayor's medal is one way of saying 'thank you' for all their hard work, dedication, commitment and service to others.

"The medals are also a celebration of this city's great tradition of officially recognising those who go that extra mile to make a difference to our communities. And for 2013, I want to acknowledge the

amazing work of the young people of Bristol, especially those who have, in some unique way are an inspiration to us all."
