Hockey Round-Up: Clifton Ladies remain in a relegation play-off spot in the EHL Premier Division, despite a 4-0 victory over bottom club Trojans.

Clifton are four points adrift of eighth-placed Bowden Hightown, having played one more game, and need maximum points from their remaining three games to have a chance of avoiding the play-offs.

Clifton led 3-0 at the interval, through goals from Carla Dunnett, Leah Wilkinson and Carys Hopkins, and increased their lead with a second from Dunnett.

In National Conference West, a weakened Firebrands Ladies side surrendered a 4-2 half-time lead to lose 6-5 at Staines.

The Firebrands goals came from Stephanie Volmer (2), Sophie Ainge (2) and Sian French.

Firebrands Under-18s progressed to the next stage of the National Cup after goals from Jess Orrett (3), Abi Porter and Sophie Bowden helped them beat Canterbury Under-18s.

In N.4 Men's Premier I, Firebrands beat Bristol University 2-1 and Robinsons were 4-3 winners at Taunton Vale.

In Premier II, Westbury/Utd Banks were 1-0 winners over Swindon. Former Gloucestershire cricketer Tim Hancock scored the goal.

Westbury/Utd Banks chairman Duncan Ogilvie scored four and Mark Colton was also on target as the club's Warriors side had a 5-1 victory over South Gloucs B.

Last week, Westbury/Utd Banks became the first men's club in Bristol to achieve Club First accreditation from England Hockey. Westbury run seven league sides, five summer league teams, an Under-16s side and mixed teams. The award was presented by Angie Pearce, England hockey development officer for Avon and Gloucestershire.
