Stephen Williams has won the election in Bristol West for the Lib Dems.

He polled 26,593 votes, seeing off his closest rival, Labour's Paul Smith who got 15,227, with a majority of 11,366.

Tory Nick Yarker polled just over 10,000, it was announced shortly before 4am this morning.

Mr Williams has increased his majority and has polled about 48 per cent of the vote share.

The Green Party's Ricky Knight drew just over 2000 votes and Danny Kushlick, who won a competition run by comic Mark Thomas to be the candidate for the People's Party got 343 votes.

No real surprises, although Labour would have hoped to give the Lib Dems more of a challenge, but it's obviously not been a good night for Labour.

However, it is good night from me right now, more later.

Well done to Stephen Williams, what a result! Bad luck Paul Smith, but it was obviously not a great night for Labour.
