Love Cornwall?
We do too, so why not come and join us in celebrating St Piran’s day on our
stall at Whiteladies’ Road Farmers’ Market on Friday 5 March.
As well as our usual fine selection of Cornish goodies, we will be
celebrating St Piran in style by selling freshly made scones with strawberry
jam and proper clotted cream! And if that’s not enough and you want to enjoy
the full monty, then we also have tea from Cornwall’s first tea estate available to buy
for the complete Cornish Cream Tea experience.
What‘s St Piran’s Day I hear you ask?
St Piran is one of the patron saints of Cornwall
and every year the people of Cornwall
get together to celebrate its national day with lots of cheer, Cornish flags,
food and of course, drink! It originally started as one of the many miners
holidays observed by Cornish tin miners as St Piran was said to have discovered
tin. Nowadays, the Cornish celebrate with numerous events throughout the day
including flag raising, singing and dancing, processions through the streets of
various Cornish towns and most importantly, the St Piran Day play performed on
the dunes in Perranporth.
Did you know that St Piran's day is also celebrated in California? (Grass Valley to be precise).
This is to respect the Cornish miners who had participated in the regions
mining history dating back to the beginning of the mid 19th century.
I wonder whether they will tucking into some proper Cornish pasties in honour?!
Please do come along and discover what delicious food and drink Cornwall
has to offer and be part of St Piran’s Day in Bristol. And if you can’t make it, remember
there is always our website (www.mullioncove.net) where you can buy all of our
products on-line as well as finding out where we’ll be via our events list.
Lowen Dydh sen Pyran! Happy St Piran’s Day!
