Obituary: The life of "Mr Patchway" Leslie Bosisto

AN honorary alderman known as "Mr Patchway" for all he did for the community has passed away, aged 88.

Leslie Bosisto joined Patchway Parish Council in 1951 and served on the district and county councils for 35 years. He was made an honorary alderman of North Avon County Council and stood for parliament in Clifton.

Mr Bosisto was a magistrate for 16 years, a former justice of the peace and a school governor of Patchway High School.

He wasn't just involved in civic life though, the great-grandfather was a founder member of Patchway Labour Club and Patchway Sports and Social Club.

He did so much work for others he was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace for his services to the community.

Before the war, Mr Bosisto joined the RAF, completing seven years of service in 1946. He landed at Sword Beach during the D-Day landings, and was stationed at Patchway.

Mr Bosisto met his wife Edith on a bus in the blackout and told her: "You are the girl I am going to marry." They had two sons, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

By profession he was an estate agent, and became president of the National Association of Estate Agents.

He founded Patchway's first estate agency in 1966 and ran it for 21 years. His hobbies included fishing, shooting and boating.

His son Bob said: "He was very straight. When I was a child, we would get a string of people coming to the house to get on the housing list. One person offered him money to get higher up and he literally threw them out."

Mr Bosisto's funeral was held last month and was attended by the mayor.
