Weeks of traffic chaos start today with the closure of Bridge Valley Road

Bridge Valley Road was closed today for the start of emergency work to support the wall which is holding back an unfathomable amount of earth from spilling onto the road.

This is obviously important work but the consequences could be horrendous for an already congested area of Clifton as all those who normally use the road to drop down on to the Portway are diverted up through the Village.

While I was there taking a couple of pics of the road closure, several motorists appeared confused at the closure and diversion and could be seen cursing behind the wheel, as I’m sure I would have done.

The closure puts more pressure on that particular stretch as College Road by Bristol Zoo Gardens is already closed due to a road safety scheme being built.

As a result there aren’t  many places to channel traffic away from Bridge Valley Road except up towards Clifton Village, where I’m sure it won’t be particularly welcome.

Here’s what the Evening Post reported last week about the closure and the plans for the work:  click on the link

It would be interesting to hear what people think as the work continues, could this affect trade? Road safety? All that extra traffic can’t be great.
