Rimsky-Korsakov: Christmas Eve Overture & Polonaise
Britten: Movements for a Clarinet Concerto
Rachmaninov: Symphony No.2
The delightful and seasonal Overture & Polonaise from Rimsky-Korsakov's Christmas Eve open this winter-warmer concert, before Britten's centenary year is marked with a performance of his rarely-heard Movements for a Clarinet Concerto - written for Benny Goodman, confiscated by war-time US Customs and completed and orchestrated from Britten's sketches by Colin Matthews.
To finish, Rachmaninov's 2nd Symphony. They don't come much more romantic than this; filled to overflowing with huge sweeping melodies, all lusciously orchestrated, this hour of sensory indulgence is more than enough to warm both heart & soul on even the coldest December night.
There will be a retiring collection in aid of The British Association for Music Therapy.
